RESEARCH
IN THE FIELD
Advancing scientific understanding through exploration, observation and research in the world’s most challenging environments.
Exploration drives discovery. Our research takes science beyond traditional boundaries and into the field, where some of the world’s most urgent questions are unfolding. From climate change and biodiversity loss to human health and inequality, we support research that deepens understanding of our planet, its people, and the challenges shaping our shared future.

CLIMATE & PLANET
From rising temperatures and shifting rainfall to melting ice and changing oceans, climate change is reshaping the systems that sustain life. Our field research examines these changes where they are happening, gathering evidence that helps us understand how our planet is changing and what those changes mean for the future.

BIODIVERSITY & ECOSYSTEMS
Understanding Life on a Changing Planet
Biodiversity is declining at an unprecedented rate as habitats change and ecosystems come under increasing pressure. Through field research, we study the relationships between species, environments and human activity to better understand biodiversity loss and help identify pathways toward healthier, more resilient ecosystems.

HUMAN HEALTH & INEQUALITY
Human health is shaped by the environments in which people live. Our field research explores the connections between climate, environmental change, access to resources, and human well-being—working with communities to better understand inequality and the conditions that influence health across different regions.
